Surfer SEO is an AI on-page SEO tool that analyzes top Google results and suggests optimizations for articles. The Content Editor provides insights on structure, keywords, and optimal word count. It integrates with Jasper, Google Docs, and WordPress.
Create Content Editor With Target Keyword
Start by entering the main keyword and setting the appropriate search region/language for the target market.
Go to Surfer > Content Editor > New, enter the main keyword, select local Google (e.g., Vietnam) and the Vietnamese language.
Choose the correct geographic location as SERP results and suggested keywords will vary significantly between markets.
View Suggested Outline And NLP Keywords
Surfer analyzes the top 10 search results and provides an outline along with a list of related keywords to include in the article.
View the "Content structure" tab to get the suggested outline, and the "NLP terms" tab to retrieve the list of keywords to incorporate into your article.
There's no need to use all suggested keywords; prioritize those with the highest frequency in the top results.
Write Content In The Editor
Draft directly in the Content Editor to monitor the content score updates in real-time.
Write the article according to the consulted outline, naturally insert NLP keywords, and keep an eye on the score bar in the corner of the screen.
Don't try to achieve a score of 100 at all costs; scores above 70-80 with naturally readable content are usually more effective.
Check Length And Heading Structure
Compare the article length and heading structure (H1, H2, H3) with suggestions based on top competitors.
View the "Structure" section to adjust the number of headings and paragraph length to align with Surfer's recommendations.
Prioritize clear, easily scannable headings as both readers and Google appreciate coherent structure.
Run Audit After Publishing
After publishing the article for a few weeks, use Surfer Audit to check performance and identify areas for further improvement.
Enter the article URL into Surfer Audit and review additional keyword suggestions or make content adjustments based on SERP changes.
Schedule audits quarterly as SERP results change continuously; articles need updates to maintain rankings.

Pros
Cons
An online fashion store wants its styling guide blog to rank at the top of Google but is competing with major fashion news sites.
Problem
Writing posts based on gut feeling without clarity on which keywords to target, with older posts sitting on pages 3-4 of search results despite having detailed content.
Solution
Use Surfer Content Editor to analyze the top 10 results for the target keyword, then rewrite the post following the outline and suggested NLP keywords.
A B2B company has over 80 old blog posts, but most have not generated significant traffic in the past two years.
Problem
Uncertainty about which posts to prioritize for improvement, and manually reviewing 80 articles is unfeasible with the current marketing resources.
Solution
Use Surfer Audit to scan the entire blog, rank the posts by improvement potential, and provide specific suggestions on what to add.
